Today’s chapter members stand on the shoulders of the five charter members continuing the fight for social justice, economic equality and equitable education. All across the nation brothers use National Founders’ Day as a time to celebrate the founding of our beloved fraternity. With a vision to help their community, the Visionary Five initiated a legacy of service to all mankind in southeastern North Carolina. Sorority members Alice Wood Lofton, Fannie Penelope White, Catherine Howze Robinson Copeland, Dora Tynes Jones and Betty Estelle Graves were charter members of this chapter. Alpha Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated was chartered on June 2, 1932. Little is the current president of the Alpha Psi Omega Chapter.Ī Brief History. The program ended with sorority members rededicating themselves to the ideals of the organization. A stirring rendition of the classic song, “The Impossible Dream” was rendered by Mrs. Tokens of appreciation were presented to both special groups. Madeline Suite, on the campus of UNC Wilmington, was the setting of the 111th Founders’ Day celebration culminating activity of the graduate and undergraduate chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
